Sista! here's YOUR post to me recently about best choices for my 75G:
"Coolest cichlid I ever owned and not just fiesty but beautiful was my female pike cichlid. She was one of the saxtilias, so smaller species... but man.. If I had the tank space... a low tech planted with one of these beauties anyday i'de do again. BUt hen I'de have to go crazy again and want another cichlid to begin with don't know about carpi's or FH to weigh in there."

Maybe this is your chance.
was your pike interactive, at least for food?

Touche! well played! baby brain is killing me... I'll have to see if I can source a pair... she was indeed one of the coolest fish I've had for a cichlid. She would flare at you anytime you got near the tank and attack the glass. I haven't seen any since I got rid of her.

your post kinda made me want to try a pike- I didn't think they were aware of anything outside their tanks. is that common, or only with a single pike?

idk, we had some larger pikes as well at one point and they where pretty interested in what was going on... almost to smart. They where always watching and you could see the wheels turning. somewhat skittish.. but I bet if you take the time to really "bond" with them they would be just as outgoing. I"de hazard a guess that kept singly like you see w/ Oscars ect you get more interaction then kept in pairs or groups, but some are likely more outgoing then others.

Pike cichlids are pretty awesome. I have had a few and all of them are very lively, incredibly smart fish. They remind me of a jurassic park quote. "When they look at you, you can tell they're figuring something out"

Lol. well, MM did highly recommend it. their being watchful & flaring appeals to me, but being skittish- not so much.
can't wait to see if she gets another one.
