Alright so I did a water change on Wed as normal but decided to "vacuum" the sump a bit as i haven't done that yet, little skungie in there. As I was doing that something flashed by my hand in the water....with my set up it'd be nearly impossible for something from the tank to make it to the sump and survive. So in my mind it had to come from an outside source ie the basement or my wife. My wife isn't going to suprise me with fish, trust me on this one. So my mind said worst case scenario big ish bug from basement...... I got soaked.

Ok so it's not some strange bug or monster. But you have to think about the implications of this. Its basically spontaneous fish manufacturing... I don't know what to call it. So netted out and put in grow out til I can figure out what species it is. Ohh just watch the video. Maybe you can tell what it is pretty sure it's not a filamented. And that's the problem how'd it get in my sump.
It's a barb. It's not a filamented though. So I'm guessing maybe an egg off a plant? No way a living fish could have made it to the sump through the filter system. Now it's possible it could have been introduced into the 75g the same way and have been sucked into one of the fluvals on that tank which I hooked on the sump to help with bioload when I moved everyone over. The fluvals are a breeding ground for rams horns so I guess a fish could survive too. Only other way it could have made it in.
The only barbs I've had are filamented. The babies I have don't have 2 bars they have a blotch near the tail like the adults. But they are way smaller then this guy. I know babies look different then adults. If it's a filamented then why would it look so much drastically different the either the fry or adults?
My wife thinks it's an aurilius barb. I can't get a good clean pic it's to fast. Red dorsal fin red tail fin and very green iridescence on its flanks.

Cool looking barb. May have to continue to live in the grow out.
I was going to move the cats upstairs and release the fry but now may have to wait till they get a little bigger.
Sump mystery. Unfortunately, I don't know what type of barb that is. Although that makes for a great story! Glad you had a grow out tank for it. At first I thought it was going to be a shiny quarter in the sump.
