imo the best way to do water changes without using an ro is to fill rubbermaid heavy duty storage units with your water underdose with prime and let sit for a day or 2 i throw 1 of my extra heaters in the day before i do my water change... ive heard changing 2 much water can be harmful i usualy do 25-30 percent water changes 3 times a week now ive seen better results with smaller more frequent changes.... not to mention ive added ro water and a uv sterilizer

Making larger water changes eg; 75% can be harmful to your filters beneficial bacteria be very careful, a 25% weekly water change should be quite enough. Also only use the required amount of prime you should only double dose if your water chemistry levels raise to a harmful state.

Large regular water changes are better then doing a 25% water change every week then once every 2 motnhs doing a 75% change. Irregular changes are bad. If you ahvent had any problems, then why change?

Doing this much of a water change is a huge stress on the fish. They may respond well but their pH, Nitrate, Nitrite and ammonia levels are changing rapidly. This can have negative effects on the fish and could cause death. I would recommend more water changes more frequently instead of one huge one. Go for a 30% water change instead of the 75%. This will be a whole lot easier on the fish....
