I wouldn't call the guy a liar. Some people are not good with size and volume when it comes to tank. I see listing people put on CL for HUGE tanks to find out that it's a 30gallon tank that they are selling.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and for the right condition/price, my discus will love me for 10ft long tank.

What are people experience in used tanks, especially large one?

from the pictures, I beleive this is the same tank that a lady was selling in the northeast a while back. It belongs to her husband and when they got a divorce, she wanted out of the house. This tank is huge. But the tank was on a cheap homemade 2x4 about 2-2.5' tall stand with 2 biowheel wet/dry.

Would have been nice if it was 10'x3'x2.5' and acrylic. I was quite surprise when I saw this tank and just can't imagine how heavy it would be since its made of glass and incase it leaked.

good luck to the new owner. The new seller is only a few miles by me, just the wrong tank.
