75g Help~

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Totally worth bothering them for 6 months, I'd think. And the $1300. :P
Aw, that's okie! Maybe someone else will know.

Like on bichirs? Sometimes they're up sometimes they're down not sure if its a "flaring" thing, and I meant the rope fish to replace the butterfly. The ctenopomas shape is different (much less suitable shape to swallow) , and its tail isn't as large, a full grown butterfly's tail would be like 2 inches of the fish. Could for sure be eaten by a full grown delhezi or probably Senegal

Schooling fish will be okay as long as they aren't small enough to be eaten, silvery flashy fish seem to attract bichirs the most

Ooh okay. I was just curious, they look cute either way. :)

Ahh, I see! Derp me, not sure how I didn't make the connection. You're def right about the different shapes. Will just have to do the butterfly in another tank, some day..
(Off-Topicish, do you think it'd be able to fit in my 55g? 1 Golden gourami [think it'd nip the butterfly?], 1 bn pleco, 11 rummynose tetras [could it eat these?], 7 albino cories, 7 khuli loaches [could these be slim enough for it to eat?])

Let me see if I can figure out a list here.. I am terribly bad at stocking numbers and such, which is why I need help. Please don't laugh at me ;-;

1x Brown Ghost Knife
1x Delhezi Bichir
1x Palmas Palmas Bichir
1x Palmas Buettikoferi
1x Angelfish
1x Leopard Ctenopoma
1x Striped Raphael Catfish
12x Schooling fish (Congo tetras? I'm pretty sure the bichirs could eat them, huh?) My other thought was rainbow fish, like boesmani, but have read that they are a bit too boisterous and freak the ctenopoma out.
..Would upside-down catfish work? Or still too small?

That sounds like a lot of big fishies to me so maybe that is overstocked.. Can def just leave two of the bichirs out if need be, and maybe the raphael too. Maybe the schooling fish as well.. Arg XD

Wow, what a well researched post! I'd go for the 5x2x2 as you'll only upgrade later! If you can afford it get an eheim 2260. Great filter and bullet proof german engineering.

I think the lone angel is going to be nippy to who it can be, and angels don't do well with nippy fish like bichir. I wouldn't bother with a striped Raphael, you won't see it.. like ever haha

I've heard of people on here w/ the congos and bichir, theyll work as they get pretty large but I would cut the 12x in half to 6 of em. Other then thatyour stock will be fine, as others have said with that stock a canister like the fluval fx5 will do fine

 I'm glad you think so! I can't do this without everyone's help though. Will keep that filter in mind as well! I think this may take longer than I wanted to as will need to save up for things like that. Should be worth it though as I want what's best for my fishies. Thank you for responding btw!

I think I'm going to take out the raphael as well, since you're right, I'll never see it, and hopefully that'd give more floor space to the bichirs.
Alrighty, down to 6! They are pretty chunky fellows, you're right 12 would be a bit much.

What are your thoughts though on the upside down cats instead of the congos? Or are their body shapes still too easy to eat?

Thank you again. :)

Seems like it's looking to be

1x Brown Ghost Knife
1x Delhezi Bichir
1x Palmas Palmas Bichir
1x Palmas Beuttikoferi
1x Leopard Ctenopoma
6x Congo Tetras
1x Angelfish (Maybe*)

Black sand..filter to be decided.

Any plant suggestions? -- Guess this would have to be until I figured out lighting. Hmm.

What background do you think would look best? I normally do black sand, black background, so can focus on the colors of the plants and fish. But I think that'd be really dark with these guys since most of them are brown.

*I will see my dads thoughts on the angelfish. I really wanted to include it because he loves them, and instead of going with that in my 55g I went with a golden gourami.
Imagine he'll be fine with me not getting one though, so probably will end up being taken off the list.

I created a masterpiece of my thoughts on what the tank will look like so far. XD
harhar.png

The floaty plants are amazon frogbit, the big leafed ones between the PVC pipes are banana plants, the fuzzy green on top of the PVC pipes is moss, the plants above the moss in the middle are a plant that is in the back corner of my 55g that I don't remember the name of (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/ninjouzata_2006/55g Tank/100_1295.jpg if anyone wants to ID it for me), and the reddish brown ones are red crypts (wendtii?) I know placing them like that would look really unnatural but I'm a fail when it comes to aquascaping.

Maybe should take the middle banana plant out and do amazon sword there. I dunno. :P I think I'll plant the tank when it's cycling so that the roots can grown in.

I've had another question.. which fish should I put in first? I'm guessing the bichirs last to let the others put on some size, but not sure.

Thanks again for any responses :)

Yet another question. How does having a canopy on the tank work? I'll google about to see but would like to know from ya'll if it's something beneficial to have with fish that like to try and escape. Thanks again. :)
