Well, I messaged PP and asked him about pikes and he gave me some good info, I gave him a list of pikes I want, and was told to try and narrow it down, but It;s just to hard for me to narrow it down!

I'm having a hard time trying to decide what to put in this tank, 48''x18''x24''

I like:
Cinta
Jegui
Maromota
Tapajos Red
Atabapo "Fire"
Xingu( I, II, II)
Percna
Vittatta

And many others! What would you reccomend for a 75G? I'm trying for a pair, but single would be fine. I just want something big, robust, colorful. Just a big purdy predator:ROFL:

Thanks in advance guys.

You can't keep a pair of any of those in a 75g. A single pike which gets to 16" max would be fine in there for life. This rules out Vittata and sp. "Venezuela", which are really large. You could keep a pair of a species from the Saxatilis group in that tank though. Saxatilis pikes are smaller than Lugubris pikes - Cr. lucius, for example, maxes out at 8" - and just as colourful and yet more hardy!

I'm pretty sure I'm getting a Cincta, silver dollars as dithers, and a megladoris irwini... Thanks PP! :D

The irwini will get pretty large, but have John get you one in the 5 to 6" range. They are pretty slow growers, and hopefully by the time it gets larger you will have smartened up and gotten a bigger tank...lol. No probs man, glad to help any way I can! Just glad to see someone so enthusiastic about them. Its very refreshing!

Haha. I also took that to mind about the Irwini getting quite large. I will probably be getting a 180G in February as I'll be moving into a new house with more room, wich meens more, and larger tanks. The 75G is perfect size for my upstairs room at this time though, and I dont want to risk a 180 up there. But yeah, new house, new tanks!

I know this isnt that Catfish forum, but I'm having a hard time finding good info on Megladoras, I know a little bit about them, but I'm trying to find more. Maybe getting a different type of cat, but I dont know what a good species would be, possibly a Raphael?(sp) I know what type of Silver dollars I'm getting, Thinking of Two regular silver dollars, and three Bleeding Heart's to make a nice shoal of five.

You don't want very many in there, as the more fish you have the larger the bioload is gonna be. Niger cats would work just fine, you know, ripsaw cats. They look cool, get large, and are pretty laid back...;). You would definately have to get the bigger tank though. Any catfish that doesn't grow larger than 8" is gonna get eaten...lol.

I dunno about a niger... I'd need quite a large tank to house a full grown one.

I was thinking about a larger plec, possibly an L264? I dunno though, I want some thing relatively large, and that looks nice but I'm just afraid f I get something too big, I wont be able to get a big enough tank for it when it needs one. I think I might just get three silver dollars instead of five...

Not that it really matters but a 48x18x24 is a 90 not a 75. ;)
