I decided to setup a 75g community tank with some of my wifes favorite fish.

I wanted to do planted, with a ugf! :naughty:

So I laid out the ugf filter then on top placed a double layer of filter batting. This is to keep the plant roots from getting tangled in the filter plates. And keep MULM! from building up under the plates.

After getting the gravel in I planted the italian Valisinaria.Have a 55g packed with it so a handful from there was plenty.

With this much in I placed the driftwood and other plants.Anubias nana, anubias barteri, cabomba. And 2 sword plants,1 potted 1 in the gravel.

the big stump that was nicely sunk in the basement tank was suddenly neutrally bouyant in the new tank.

So I kept it in place with a small rock till it gets settled.
Theres an ac 110 and an emperor 400 for filtration.

The stocking are the koi angels I bought for my wife online with a few more added that she bought at auction.
next I added my group of 5m 5f glossoleptis pseudoincisus for flash and motion.Next I wanted my loaches.I thought they would be more fun in the kitchen than the fishroom.Couldnt decide between my 6 botia striata and my 7 botia almorhae so I put them all lol
finally some plecos my 2 gold nuggets(L-18) and my l-262 who is very beautiful but almost never comes out.
The tanks a bit overstocked with all those angels in there but Im going to be pulling them out as they pair off which should be any day now.

nice set up. any reason you went with ugf?

I like ugf filters. And the floss idea was a cool one Ive seen on this forum a few times over the years and wanted to try out.

nice... do you have any mechanical filtration? if you dont i would just add a cheapo HOB filter with some filter floss of poly fill in it!
Uhh thank you?

What do you think of a reverse UGF with HOB for mech filter?
Seems to be best of both worlds.
Have you been able to grow plants with UGF in the past? Would love to hear about your experience with UGF/RUGF with plants.

Never ran a rugf setup. In general Im not great with plants but over the years many of my nicest plants have been in ugf tanks.Always the same problem though the roots tangled up in the plates.Thats why when I saw someone on this forum post about using a filter pad under the gravel in a ugf setup,a light bulb lit up over my head lol. Finally got around to setting one up like that.

Cool, keep us updated of how it works out.
