75g Stand cracking underneath

Just bummed wondering if I can save this by adding a thick board ontop of the stand or some 2x4 for support or is it to late?
Stand is 5 years old I noticed it a few months ago

Idk much about this kinda stuff but idk if it’s salvage under the weight it will probably continue to crack and then snap and tank on the ground… all i could say is replace the board with sturdier wood

I personally would take the aquarium off the stand and inspect the top and base. Possibly the top was made from pressed wood particles. I think it may be possible place a 3/4 section of plywood on top but not sure.
I personally had to build a stand for a 180 because stand started to bowe and particle board was deteriorating made me extremely nervous.
If you are handy with tools and wood I definitely recommend building a stand.

Less than say $400 to build a stand that will last a life time versus $1,000’s/$10,000’s of dollars in damage/losses if the stand collapses and you have to get a new stand and a new tank…. That’s the way I look at it.

If you aren’t good with diy then you could look into getting a metal stand built for under $1k I’d say. Not sure what the going rates are for metal these days.

Looks like an acrylic tank on a “standard” stand made for glass that only needs support around the edges. Easy fix IMO… think of what u have now as just as decorative shell. Can add in some more 2x4 legs with center supports that go across them to support the tank bottom. Might have to drain the tank to eleviate some of that bottom bowing. Can honestly fix it “as is tho” in a pinch to prevent the bottom from blowing out or the tank bottom cracking. Luckily acrylic bows… ive done the same on some older used stands i had. Anything u add in will help.

Yet another example of why chipboard/OSB/particle board is a ridiculous choice for an aquarium stand...but they keep selling them...

Sure you can fix it up, as stated above...but then you will still have a POS stand that you have expended more time, effort and money on than it is worth. DIY a stand out of 2x4's and/or plywood...or buy a wooden or metal stand...and be done with it.

Fixing this is like spending $5000 on a stereo and another $3000 on wheels and tires for your Lada. You will still end up with...a Lada...

Agreed. You can put make-up on a pig....but it's still a pig!

For peace of mind retire that stand and either buy a shiny new one, or build one yourself. Job jobbed!

Could be the artificial wood veneer cracking, not the actual wood structure?
I just had my outside 125 gal tanks wood stand start to collapse after an earthquake, and am using cinder block as a replacement.

I wouldn’t wait another minute getting that taken care of…water damage and mitigation is very expensive. That looks to be particle board and once it starts to go, there’s no turning back. It also swells with moisture and really shouldn’t be used for aquariums.

Everyone had great advice. The only thing I can add is to urge you to rectify it expeditiously
