I had terrible problems with water- borne algae blooms. Someone directed me to a canister filter with uv. Absolutely great. I haven't had one outbreak since. Also, I understand it can zap someone floating parasites too. I haven't had any ich problems either. Could just be a coincidence.

Well lets just say it worked damn good! I would recommend this product to anyone that has green water problems.

How much longer should I keep it in for? Should I take it out and if it comes back than put it back in?

I would leave it in, I have one running constantly on my main tank. Why take it out to just have the problem come back? You could also try eliminating the source of the green water, such as too much light, and high phosphates/silicates.

It says the bulb only lasts 8-12 months so I didn't want to leave it in, If I can see a green tinge to the water then I was going to put it back it.

Off and on reduces the life of the bulb and transformer tremendously.
