NO = Normal Output Less expensive but less light output
HO = High output

If you get reg sand (don't get Play Sand, get pool filter sand) then you will have to use something else in the water to buffer the PH high for the Africans

If you get Aragonite (which is essentially crushed coral) it will buffer the water ideally for you and it will be hassle free. It also helps to maintain consistency with water changes and maintenance.

Ok ty. And to add to the barrage of questions:newbie:
What can be uses as water buffers if I do go with Pool filter sand.
And if i do go with aragonite about how much will I need for 75gal(probable dimensions 48x18x21 will change if I buy from craigslist possibly)

You can either use a buffer like Seachem Malawi buffer or you can use crushed coral in the filter tray if you get a canister.

I would say that 30-50lbs (depending on how much rock/decorations you are adding) should suffice. You don't want too much because they are going to move it around anyway. I ended up with about 20lbs in my 65 because it was all piling up against the front glass so I took more than half out.

Ok thats not too bad managed to find a 30lb bag for $18 I was worried it was gonna be a bit pricey. Thank you
on a side now any recommendations for test kits? Atm I only have some comets minnows and 2 turtles so I've just done weekly water changes with no testing but I figure Its better safe then sorry when talking about more expensive fish that are more then likely more sensitive to water conditions then comets.

Not that big of a fan of oscars, nothing wrong with em, but I'd rather african cichlids over them. Just a matter of personal taste

Good idea brah, I had some new worlds for about half a year, liked'em, but didn't love'em. Got my new stock over the last weekend, love them. Maybe its cuz somethin new, maybe its cuz there's so much more color and action.

Hey Zari! Welcome! First tank is very exsciting and I think that africans are a great choice. They are very easy to take care of IMO. You'll get great advice here. My philsophy with africans is over filter and over crowd.

Read as much as you can. Most of us here are not very patient, butt.... do take your time. Enjoy and keep us posted on your progress.

Yeah I'm not very patient but most likely having to wait between getting tank and filter and getting the rest will help with me not getting to impatient cycling it
