big open side is the front which will get a support once the sump goes in.. the top is also getting another cross support as well as plywood and foam.. so far so good.. i added some water to the tank just cuz i had to see it with some water in it..

im still not fully sure where its going to go so im not sure what im going to do for the top.. chances are ill build a canopy like the one i made for my 55

WHat did you use to attach the legs to the top and bottom frames? I see the L-brackets but there's got to be more, right?

Hopefully!!!!

yeah theres screws through the legs into the base/top.. im stupid but not that stupid..
the brackets were used due to the lack of helping hands/clamps .. the plywood will also be screwed on not just tacked.. my intent is to be able to park a tank on the stand if i ever get bored with fish :)

Sorry, I didn't mean to insinuate anything- just that I didn't see them. I plan on building mine in the next few days. Please post when you make the canopy as well- I really like what you have on the 55.

THanks for keeping it updated. All this talk of a sump is too advanced for me! Just going to make a stand and canopy for my 38. It should be fine with a biowheel 350 and a powerhead or two

Heh heh heh...if you're not sure make sure your shop vac is out of the van and you do it over a big tarp that you have folded into 4ths...
If it goes you'll know it in about a nano-second after the bit touches the glass, cause you'll have siht everwhere...don't forget safety glasses and a 6 beer minimum...:ROFL::ROFL:
BTW the start of your stand looks beefy;)

ive been searching all day for ways to find out if its tempered or not.. i know atleast the bottom is cuz it has a neat lil "do not drill tempered glass" sticker on it.. i have no idea about the rest of it though... all i could find online was something about polorized camera lenses and twisting them and it makes a "X" or something... other than that its either contact the mfg (no info on who that could possiably be since its a used tank)... so i guess ill just have to find out...

im going to make some calls to local glass shops and see if they know how to tell or if i can pay them to tell me cuz id really hate to bust the tank..
