75gallon - first time planting

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
when you rescape i suggest using some clear fishing line to hold down the plants, it blends in nicer.
if the pressurized co2 isnt an option, an easy DIY co2 would help and is affordable.

Look out for algae with the strong light and slow growing plants. You may need floaters to soak up some of the light.

edit: if you choose to keep your current plants, CO2 won't make much of a difference, so don't sweat it too much. They'll still grow slow with the addition of CO2 and ferts.

thanks, though i am not worried about the rubberbands at all. they'll be coming off when th roots have found their ways until then I'll just leave them there. it's hard to do anything that requires both hands with a 2 year old constantly underneath me.

DIY co2 isn't really an option for a 75gallon tank. The amount of space in 2l bottles I'd need would be silly and I'd go through it quite fast. I may be doing it for my 29gallon though when i decide to scape that one! :)

Yeap! That's why I got the frogbit, to soak up the light and not feed as much in to the tank, however I think with the bulbs being the way they are regarding the 18000K that algae may not be a huge issue (at least I am hoping).

I am dosing flourish every other day right now and I do excel once a week if I remember ;p

the flourish and excel should be the other way around. Excel is needed more regularly than the comprehensive.

Agreed. I run a lot of T5 light over a tank with slow growers and salvinia helped immensely. With no CO2 and occasional NPK dosing, it doubles about every 2-3 weeks. The best part is that my LFS gives me credit for it!

Ok, thanks for the advice. The moss has really taken off. You can literally see new growth each morning. The anubias and ferns seem to be doing well also. I can see the anubias roots reaching and searching for a place to grip to. One plants had a root move about an inch and a quarter since being tied down. The ferns are letting their rots run over the woods now too, they'll be grabbing hold soon I thin. Looks like this just may work out. :)
Did a litle rescaping today to open the sand up a bit so I could add the loachs from their QT tank. They love it and are awesome to watch. escondido and meeki's come in tomorrow and then the tank will be done pretty much, save a bit of touching up once the plants start to grow a biot.
