77°F to high for a Spotted Gar?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that should be fine.

I just got a florida gar today and I keep him with my three peacock bass, they like a temperature of around 84 degrees. Is this fine for the gar?

since gars are pretty hardy fish they can adapt to about any conditions. i never raise the temp. past 86 degrees.

i keep my new gar (3 1/2in) with my largemouth, (2 1/2in)

my 2in gar is alone

My gar is longer (12") than my three pacock bass (8-10") but the peacock got a lot more mass to them I think. They get along really good, they actually sleep together at night haha.

And then will come the frayed or missing fins, the broken backs and the dead gar....

Good luck for now but really do not expect it to last....

as gars should not be housed with aggressive cichlids. not just cuz the gars will get picked on but the lack of food the gar will have trying to compete with the cichlids. most cichlids are pigs and will eat almost anything you throw in the tank. or atleast i think.

I've seen tons of gars kept with peacock bass so not quite sure what you're getting at. My pbass arent aggressive at all in the least bit. My mother has regular ol cichlids that put my pbass (yes I know its of the cichlid family) to shame in terms of aggressiveness.
