  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats a epic goldfish tank! LOL

lol. I think there is nothing wrong with keeping goldfish. They're just colorful carp, and some of them can get really large... Most of them don't because they're the "newbie" fish or people just don't care. Good for you for making this epic decision!

Those are some lucky Goldfish...

Great tank, and congrats on the goldfish, not something 99% of us would have went with, but it is your tank.

If you decide for something different, I too would recomend natives. No need for a heater at all, and in your situation that can save quite a bit of cash.

For that size tank I would probably go with 8-10 sunnies (some real colorfull species like the LA Longear), a couple redfin pickeral (smaller and won't eat the sunnies) and a nice bullhead cat. Could also go with crappie, bowfin or yellow perch. I would also recomend Rainbow Trout, but I think your tank would be too warm, and a chiller for that tank would be worse than a heater price wise.

Very nice Alex hahahahahahaha....

Thanks Dorn. You're not laughing at me, you're laughing with me, cuz I'm laughing about it too- lol. Goldfish are not what I had in mind when I got the tank. Looking forward to seeing yours stocked with some cool fish.

Thanks.

Goldfish For Life!

Most goldfish don't get housed properly (indoors) as they get larger... Big-ups to you brother!

So true. Thanks for the kudos.

It is pretty amazing to see the little bowls that some goldfish are able to survive in for years. They are pretty tough fish.

They seem pretty happy so far, but they did come out of a 2,000 gallon pond, so this is actually a downgrade for them. At least they don't have to compete with 30"+ koi for food anymore...the lady I got them from had some realy monster koi in there...I'm a moron and didn't snap any pix. :screwy:

I like those sunfish and I love Bullheads. I had a bullhead when I was younger and he would roam all levels of the tank during the middle of the day. He was always on the hunt for food...not shy at all. I might even try to keep one with my goldfish.

most of us would have gone monster...btw. nice goldfish!

It's not a matter of "if" I will go warm water...it's only a matter of "when." I'm not into keeping fish that get huge. I prefer the dynamic of having a few schools of different species and seeing how they interact with their own kind and the others in the tank (keeping goldfish doesn't really give you that...to be honest, I'm already a bit bored with them). I love the idea of a big school of silver dollars, balas, clown loaches along with a few cichlids...down the road I'm going to find a way to make it work without breaking the bank to heat it during the winter.

That's me as well. In a tank that size I would try to create a nice biotope with several species that would interact in the wild. I would also try to keep the decor as natural as possible. Probably wouldn't be practical at a 4" height, but I would love to see a custom background on that bad boy

Yeh Im laughing with you hahahahahaha....Dont worry my stock will be pretty funny too...
