Hi, I have a dilemma between getting a 7x3x3 ft 1/2" tempered glass tank vs a 7x3x2.5 ft 1/2" regular glass tank. Will be adding braces to either one. But I have read reviews that say tempered glass tanks are not advisable because of the way it shatters. I appreciate any advice as I will have the tank made by next week.
I am gonna have it pre-drilled, and I have already considered the price difference. I am just more concerned regarding the safety and risk of shattering with tanks of these sizes
tempered is safer, it breaks into small pieces. non tempered breaks into long sharp shards. get it predrilled and tempered. that's the best and safest way.

Do not get tempered glass. Tempered glass is meant to prevent injury by breaking all at once as soon as it meets its pressure threshold. What this means is say you bump the tank, with regular glass it cracks and maybe you get a leak you patch and that buys you time to find a new tank. Tempered glass gives out all together, you bump it and crack it and the crack spiderwebs dumping all the water out. Not to mention its cheaper to use regular glass but for either of those sized tanks I would go higher than 1/2. I use 1/2 Acrylic on my 325G and I often wish I went thicker and acrylic is stronger than glass.
