wow looks good

Definitly i think making a steel frame and covering it with wood panels and a wooden door would be very interesting. I'm still trying to decide how me and my dad are going to build a stand for a 110-150 gal... I'll let you guys know ...

Will be 8/3/2 ray tank with over flow to wet and dry sump, havent decideed whether glass or acrylic.
Would like acrylic but its double the price..
acrylic might double the price, but if you think about the thickness of glass that you would have to use, the distortion and color from the thickness of the glass would be pretty large. going with starfire or whatever the ultra-clear glass is runs about the same cost as acrylic

I have glued plywood to the top and bottom of the stand and have found there is a wobble in the stand which is because of the floor being uneven over the 8ft would sitting the stand
on 1" polystyrene be ok or should i just let the metal bend with the 1and 1/2 tonne (which i dont think is a good idea??

stand as it is now

Very Nice stand Wildy. That's one of the best I've seen. Most of the diy steel stands that I've seen are poorly designed because they are missing gussets and diag bracing. Once again good job.

I'm a welder also. I do mostly Alum Tig.

Put shims under the feet on the floor so the stand is true and doesn't wobble.
The surface the tank sits on has to be as close to flat as possible. Otherwise you're stressing the seams of the tank and they may fail over time. Go ahead and use the polystyrene or other types of foam under the tank to absorb any remaining irregularities. 1" sounds a bit thick, maybe 1/2"?

With out the bracing it , it would be vunerable to collapsing if one of the welds broke..
