8 foot tank idea

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I love you.... Lol.

Ok so I don't need 4x4 even though the tank is glass. I can use plywood on sides and front.

I want to paint it black but thought this stain would look pretty. Can I use it to protect the wood on the outside from spills?

Sponge filter, duh, why didn't I think of that.

Thanks for explanation on sump and plumbing, I know what ill do now. PVC works best here for me.

Thinking about ordering an even bigger tank. 8 foot, but 36" deep instead of 2.5'. This would be a 375. I am leaning towards using the 75gal as a sump at any rate.

Still would have the fx5 and the aquatop 500uv along side.

Does this sound okay?

Okay, so rethinking everything on how to get the tank and stand into the room.

Am thinking of going 96x36x25 (375g)... Going to be a ***** to get inside though.

I also need to figure out how to get the stand in the room. Looks like I may have to build it after the aquarium arrives.

BIGGEST QUESTION -- Do I NEED to treat the wood? Can I do each piece prior to putting it together?

Standard doors are 30" I think? you shouldn't have any problem getting the stand in the house. Why don't you have your dad help you with this project?
You don't need to treat the wood, just paint it or stain it after it's built

My dad lives in another stare but my fiance is helping. The room is too small to have the stand brought in unless I can lift ut above the aquarium and im guessing it will be heavy. Room is only 7 foot deep with a door at an angle from the outer door.... its frustrating me.

This sump is rated for 300 gallons it says, and this is similar to what I'm looking for. I don't really want a glass sump, and all my tanks are unfortunately glass. Not that I'd be buying this sump per say, but this is what I am thinking of doing.

Nice sump

Oh and if I got the bigger tank I couldn't get the stand inside at all. It would most likely be too tall.... 96*36*30tall....

Yeah welcome to monster fish keeping :) I have double doors thankfully but I'm planning a 1100 gallon tank and now the double doors are to small :irked:
