i have a 8 inch silver that wont eat pellets. he will eat flakes, krill, and has eaten a feeder guppy i gave him put will not eat pellets.
he will bite the pellets and then just spit them out, also soaked pellets that are soft he will chew up and then spit out.
is this normal for an arowana his size? or will i be feeding him flakes forever?

mine is 7-8" and just eats shrimp and krill, he wont eat the hikari pellets or feeders....

I had the same problem with my frontosa's. They would pick up the pellet and spit them out. How long have you trying to feed your silver pellets. It sometimes takes quite a while for a fish to get used to different food. However, try cutting the pellet in half if you can and see how you go. Good luck.

give it time. how long have you been trying to feed it pellets?

i got my jar, silver, and dats to eat hikari food sticks. takes time and ignorance (on your behalf). i ignored my fish for the longest time and didnt see who was eating what.... just threw in the food come back in 10 mins all was gone. it wasnt until about 3 days ago i actually watch who eats what and they all were eating the same foods.

If you don't feed it for a couple of days, it should be hungry enough to eat them. I wouldn't starve a little one for too long though. You might try Hikari Food Sticks for carnivores. I have seen silvers that spit out Omega One, tear up the Food Sticks. My silver will eat the sticks as long as you feed him, loves em, and has been eating them since he was as small as yours. He's currently 2'.

I would seriously start training the fish to eat different foods. They need the nutrition that a varied diet gives. Just like humans wouldn't be very healthy eating only candy bars and crackers. You could live on it, but it's not good for overall health.

Starve them alittle bit and try using small floating pellets instead of foodsticks. I have successfully trained all my silvers to accept pellets using this method.:)

ive had him for a week now, so i guess im just not giving him enough time?
i have tried pellets and sticks and he spits out all of them.

If he do chew abit on those pellets, then chances of them accepting them is there. Just dun give in to it.:)

If you have any smaller tankmates be very carefu; since the hungry arow might attack tankmates when hungry. that's what happened to me
