800 Gallon Aquarium Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
NICE PROJECT! There is one thing that I would caution you on. I just built a stand for my 800 gal acrylic tank. I originaly wanted to use cinderblocks to biuld my stand. I consulted with a builder and an engineer. Both told me that the tank is over 4 ton when full and cinderblock could crumble under that much weight. I built my stand using 4 x 6 legs every two feet front and back. cross supports were 2 x 10s carriage bolted together. Feel free to contact me if you want more info.

Looks great, I would wait at least 2 weeks for the silicone to dry too, the thicker it is the longer it takes it to dry, when it is really thick It might feel dry on the outside but the inside may not be. If this happens with the in side of the silicone bead and you fill it with water the seal with fail it is just a matter of when. I have seen people fill theirs up before the silicone drys all the way through and it has sprung a leak with in a month or so, there are a few threads of it happening on here.

im gonna a 1K gallon tank, and try a huge pond at least 5K gallons but no bigger than idk 10K gallons..but id have to see my blueprints first..and id be on a budget of course lol but im still thinking of it cause im 16 and got lots of time. but yea hopefully i can make this when im a lot of older like 30's..=) thatd be my goal when im in my 30's for sure..

Jeez that's scary! I was gonna get like 40 or so blocks and stand them edge to edge and make a full "table" for the tank to sit on. I thought that would be enough support and blocks to spread the weight out. If 20 cinderblocks can hold a house up i figured it would work for the tank...but now you've scared me lol....back to the drawing board...litterally

***Update***
So I finally got the tank finished, completely water proof no leaks PERFECT! Then I cut the hole in the wall where the tank would sit. I placed the cinderblocks (about 50) as the base and me and 9 friends lifted the huge box!!! got it into place and put it down. To put it down we had to "drop" it maybe a half of an inch...that half an inch coupled with the 1200lbs of the tank cause EVERYTHING TO SHIFT AND I HAD A FEW LEAKS!!! SO I'M PATCHING ALL THAT AND TRYING TO GET ALL THAT FIXED...FML. I'll let you guys know when I get it fixed.

You dropped it onto the base! :banghead: I know moving large tanks is hard but still have to be super super careful

Nice Build!

its been a long time, but here is the update on the tank...finally got it up and running. I couldn't get the silicone to hold so I found another product called rubberizeit. Its been holding and stable for quite some time. The only complaint I have is that the product turns brown when wet. other than that...here is what I have so far...updates and changes coming...
