Hi all, Pretty new to this site just been looking every know and then. I am in the process of getting a corner tank built which will run 1500 along one wall and 1500 along another and 700 high, About 820 ltrs i think. The guy that is building it for me says i will need 2 fluval fx5 filters to keep things clean because of the structure of the tank. Just wondering what other people think of this or is it a bit of over kill as these filters move a lot of water. Also my other ??? is what size heater should i look at getting as he hasn't touched on this subject as yet.

Other peoples input would be taken on board so i have a few options to play with as i will be spending alot of money on this tank i want to get i right.

are you for real or taking the piss. And whats with the hahaha. Just trying to get some advice.

He means when you are done post some pics. Grab a smaller tank also. It can be used to quarantine, and as a recovery. That way you can get a feel for the works of a system before you go balls to the wall. Smaller tanks are harder to keep in good shape, so if you can run a ten and keep things alive, I would think you could run a 200+ tank with ease ;) The heating if 800 liters is around 200 2 x 300 watts should do you good.

He's more than likely right. Theres no way you could run one filter on that tank because of it shape. There would be a large dead spot with little or no water movment. You could add a couple of powerheads to help move water or maybe get a couple of smaller filters but tbh one fx5 at the far end of each tank would be your best bet. If you went for smaller filters youd end up needing more of them. maybe 4 fluval 405's or 4 eheim 2028's. At the moment I have 2 eheim 2128's on my 125 usg tank so i can definatly see why the guy has suggested 2 fx5's. of course you could just do a sump and have the tank drilled in 2 seperate places for the flow and returns.

oh ok sorry just wasn't sure. Anyway this is not my first tank have had a couple of 250 lrt tanks for a few years now and have just done some renovations on the house so i thought why should'nt the tank get a reno aswell. Not overly sure what i will put in it as yet as good fish are hard to come by here. Will defenetly post pics when the tank is done.

well glass got delivered today but someone forgot to put the base pieces in with it. so will have to wait for that to get reorganized now. Still have to wait for the carpet to go down next week then it's all systems go. Can't wait

well, you could run a single monster filter, if you drew from one end of the L and fed back to the other, but you'd be better off with 2 filters, or maybe just 2 return points at the ends, and one suction point at the corner.

Sounds like a pretty cool tank - might be larger than 800 litres though. How deep will it be from front face to back face?

46cm I guess gives you 820l. that'll be a nice tank for sure.

thax all decided i will go with the 2 fx5's and look into a pair of good 300w heaters. as for stocking it i will just put my oscars and friends in there for now and see what the future brings. Was going to keep the 250ltr for a grow out tank but the wife wants me to turn it into a marine tank so she can have nemos lol. Will see wht happens.

The wattage needed for heating the tank will depend a LOT on the ambiant temperiture of the room your putting the aquarium in.
