Hope yah dont mind me copping the filtration idea.

so far it works awesome, i like it, and will use this design on my next, holds more media than my fx5s and i can stick my head in the canopy and can't hear it at all, the only noise is my airpump, and i am going to do something about that later.

and no i don't mind, that's why i posted it, gonna do one later but i'm gonna spray it with great stuff foam and carve it like a tree stump or a rock or something, whenever i do another tank, that is, just some ideas i figure i'd throw out there.

Interesting concept. Glad its working.

I didnt know great stuff could be submerged. Oh boy

Yeah, never had a problem submerging it, just holding it down is the problem, i always brush on a couple coats of concrete or coat it with a resin to seal it.

looks great. why did you use abs pipe and not pvc? just for the black color, or are their other benefits?

This concept has intrigued me for quite some time. My version uses a 5gal bucket, quartered vertically. Siliconed one peice into the corner of the 75gal. So, I have a pie shaped "overflow" box in the back-corner of the tank. Filled it with plastic mesh and scrubbies. Put a powerhead in the bottom w/Tygon tubing attached to form the return line OUT of the 'box'.A little tricky to balance the flow, but did an awesome job!!Worked great until I did a large waterchange and the weight of the water inside the filter pushed apart the seam at the top. The rest of the seal wasn't far behind. In the end, I stuck the p-h on a large sponge filter. Will attempt again on the 280 plywood project.
