I would go for a big group of pictus catfish, it would be cool to watch them racing from end to end of such a long tank.

I'm not sure I agree with that, the tank is probably too narrow. They need enough tank width to extend their whiskers without having both touching the tank walls at the same time in order to not feel trapped, which the tank is not wide enough for (1.5x the width of the whiskers, following the rule of thumb I mentioned, would probably work).
 
That tank has been going strong since about September. And it is one of two permanently planted silver dollar tanks I have.
Damn.. thats amazing, mine ate all my plants in 2 weeks.
