The title says it. I am starting planning predicated on the idea of using 8x4 plywood, likely 3/4 inch.

I am trying to figure out glass vs. acrylic, what size viewing pane, thickness, etc.

Where does one find the formulas for required thickness? What are safe margins for the size of the viewing window? I don't even know where to look for this, besides reading other people's threads and trying to deduce based on their choices. That scares me for two reasons. 1. I don't know that the builder made the right call. 2. I don't know that I made the right inference from what I read. Please be patient with me and use small words. I am not an engineer. I am a writer.

I am also willing to hear input on what types of waterproofing, re-enforcement/bracing, etc. I have read enough to have a general idea of how that goes, but if you have a chestnut of wisdom, I am all ears. Honestly, anything you want so share I'd be happy to read.

Hi there! It can be daunting to build your own plywood tank if it's your first time. Mine is a 9x5x4, so quite similar dimensions and therefore load bearing requirements and glass thickness. Check out my 1000g plywood tank post if you have some time. It has the methodology and build process photos that you may be able to take some ideas from. I work professionally as an aquarium builder if that helps ease your concerns.

Feel free to drop me a message if you have any specific questions
