I want to build a 8x'4x'4 Acrylic tank need all the pointers I can get, From filter set tp how think the acrylic should be was going to go with 1 inch but it is like 530-600 a sheet. So if i can't find help here I am doomed.

Where did you find acrylic 4' x 8' x 1" for 530-600 per sheet?

Try this http://boonedocks.net/fishtank/ftweb.php

Your looking at 9000 + lbs too.

Look in your area for cell cast acrylic and a way to move the pieces around (the tank is going to weigh 1000lbs).

Do you need to see from multiple sides or is it a built-in?

So many questions so little time :D.

Oh, and please refrain from double posting especially in the same section it gets really confusing having info in two places.

I would keep to the 1" thick, 4'tall is alot of pressure to deal with, Take a look see through milkmans thread, he is useing alot thinner acrylic because he is putting in deviders...

Have you built a tank befor?, have you ever bonded acrylic?, what is the extent of your aquatic experience?

lol, your on the list man...

ambushradio, i think that you picked one of the hardest things as far as tanks are concerned, glass tanks are easy in cpmparison to acrylic ones, the joint on the acrylic tanks need to be perfectly true and straite, buffed to a shine is posable to prevent air bubbles. you cant just use silicone, you need to bond the acrylic together with a solvent, like methylene chloride/weldon. then(i like clamping, some use the weight of the acrylic) you need to get the seems together and run the methylene chloride allong the seem and let the capilart action pull the stuff in, it then melts the two pieces together makeing it one. the more irregular and untrue the edge is the more air bubbles you will have, when you get your piece cut you can get the plastic guys to mill the edge for you for fairly cheap, but i always used to block sand and polish the ends myself you make sure that its good...

the more air bubbles the weaker the joint and the weaker the joint the higher the chance of leaks..., if you go with a plywood you might be alright with 5/8" acrylic or 3/4" glass, this is because its supported well on all the edges, much better then if it glued together in a tank.
