Been keeping an eye on the other recent thread of this. Read many old ones. Ive raised the temp and added a generous amt. of salt a few days ago. No improvement. Time frame has been atleast a week. Im guessing its my fault for the stock its in with. It was “in the rafters” after a few days of being added to the tank. Didnt think much of it with the info ive read. But theres def. An issue now. I can press her down and shes very buoyant, cant get down at all. Tank is a heavily aerated 32” tall 500gal which probably doesn’t help buoyancy issues. Already preparing a 2’ tall 230gal just for my 2 polys. Have some gar to rehome. I know florida gar and polys are pretty much a “staple” around here but ive had issues in the past and my floridas are very bitey…

Im thinking an epsom salt bath is needed. What amt. and for how long? I have a 55 and 20 i can setup short term for meds if needed or treat the 230 shes going into.

I know everyone says “my water is fine” but mine really is ?… the system is automated and over 200% tank volume is replaced weekly. Nitrates haven’t been over 5ppm in 8yrs and i used to breed rays in the tank. PH is always 7-7.5. Lots of calcium in my water also which ive read is beneficial to polys. I may be wrong on that tho.

Appreciate any help how to move forward from the poly krew ??… im sure this shows how neub i am in this area of fish sadly lol ?‍♂

I know the wild Ornate Polypterus originates from the Congo so possibly different water parameters. I've personally had bad luck with Ornate especially bloating issues ?

Appreciate the feedback ??… ive had a cple in the past no problem. Might have been CB tho ??‍♂. Humbling as always ?… kept many temperamental “show cats” in my day no prob. Never thought id struggle with something so common. Usually how it goes tho to remind ya theres always something to learn. Luckily the new endli is doing well same tank and ate some shrimp for me. I’ll be pulling them both regardless to their own “more appropriate” setup. Happy i have a 230 half ready for backup just in case.

Set up a proper hospital tank for the best chance at treatments. Went with a 25g so i can easily replace 100% of the water daily from my larger automated systems. Starting off with epsom salts 1tbs per 5 gal at 80 degrees for 3 days. See what happens ?…

Approaching day 3 of epsom salt 1tbs per 5 gal… i backed it with Metro 250mg per 10gal. Coming up on 48hrs of the Metro/salt combo as recommended in the poly health care sticky. No signs of improvement yet. Today will be 100% w/c with cycled water from a larger automated system then round 2 for meds/salt… should i up the dose of epsom salt or metro or just stay true with the “basic” recommend amounts?

I would stay the same dosage, and if you see no difference in another 3 days, time to try a different antibiotic.
