I have had my O for 1.5 years now, he was 3" when I got him; today he is a lazy 9.5" and really seems to have stopped growing. I know they slooow down around 8" so I was just wondering how long it took for your monster O to become a monster.

man :-(

I guess mine is jacked up some how.

I got my Oscar at probably around 2" or so he was the smallest in the tank, Havent even had him a month yet and hes already at 4". I know that doesnt answer your ? but at the rate mines growing he should be there in no time! :D

I feel really horrible. My balas got stunted because of my lack of knowledge, my oscar I knew what was going on and took good care of him, but he has random spells where he doesn't eat for weeks. Almost makes me feel like giving up.

Had mine a little over a year, got him at about 2" and now about 11-12". Mind you that thicker glass makes a fish look smaller, if you can take it out of the tank and measure it that will give you a bigger idea.

same dude but i know better know but it should be 1 inch for a month

The obvious question is what size tank is it in?

I'm convinced that many larger fish end up stunted from spending too long in little tanks in the LFS, I had a royal and a goldy plec from the same shop and they had both been there for ages and neither really grew over the 2-3 years I had them in my 160g where as another royal I got from a different shop that had only just arrived grew quite steadily under similar conditions. It may not have been your tank/care that caused it to be stunted, it could have spend months in a 10g at the shop/wholesaler under less than ideal conditions, or it could even just be a naturally smaller fish. People say oscars grow to 12" (well I've heard up to 16" but I'm yet to see solid proof of anything much over 12") but its like saying male humans grow to 6', most will get to around that, some more some less, and some will stay considerably smaller.
