james, it's very nice! is it xingu1 or xingu2? do you know the different? I think my xingu is different to yours!

Xingu, found in the rio xingu has been addressed in 3 diffrent varients, Xingu I Xingu II and Xingu III the elusiveness of each specie is variable but one thing is forsure, any xingu is a treasure. Though most fact sheets include that the Xingu cichla species is a single specie others however, express 3 diffrent varients. Visible traits and varients are visible in the fish but are yet to be proven. i have gathered some cool information i have found from the aquatarium website along with the cichla spp.

"Xingu I"

As a young fish a longitudinal band, which is above and below by small bright spots shine lined. This longitudinal band, which is at the height of the dorsal fin approach begins, ends in the large spot tail root. We suggest that five narrow stripes on the dorsal fins from the base up into the abdomen through. The species have bright Spots on the body. The gill cover remains omitted. Although they are already several years in the aquarium is widespread.

Starangly enough he also included that Xingu 1 is relativley easy to breed!

"Xingu II"
This type is similar to the previous very much, however, it is more evenly distributed. It also poses many spots on the gill plate at smaller stage of life. This, however, is lost as it matures. In this form, only three are widely available. If the length of the strip dissolves, only three remain rudimentary, in the back area. The root is rather light brown. Since this specie grows faster than even -C.

"Xingu I".
I expect "Xingu I" to grow larger then the other Xingu species.

Xingu 3 is kinda more elusive then the rest, nothing was written about it an little is known but from what i see xingu 1 and 2 both have the faded 5 thin slashed bars and are highly spoted. xingu1 has the partial line still running through him, while xingu 2 doesn't and only hase the faded bars and spotting. xingu 3 however, doesn't have or has very very faded bars and little or no body spots. but it attains a full line running the end of the gill plate.

and here are some random cichla pics that were caught from rio xingu.

i actually didn;t use the cichla spp. because it doesn;'t fully address 3 diffrent species but be sure to look at it because it does include some important info.
