So i am picking up a 90g aquarium for my RBP's on saturday! I wanted to make the tank look sharp so I ordered a 3D rainforest background for it. Its gonna be a process that should take me a couple days but when done i think this is going to be an amazing biotope for the amazon river for my P's! Does anyone have any experience with 3D backgrounds or any tips that may help to make the tank look really good? Thanks for all the help and i will be sure to post pictures of the process so everyone can see what it looks like from start to finish! wish me luck!

I have heard that 3d backgrounds or anything other than a dark solid color is not particularly good for Piranhas. I think it is particularly due to the amount of light which can come off a 3d background as well as the shapes which they see. Piranhas are extremely skittish fish, I have 4 juvies and added a small piece of driftwood and they wouldn't swim by it for a week or so, and it got to the point where they were cramping themselves in one side of the tank so I had to take it out. Everything needs to be calculated with P's, I'd suggest rethinking a black or blue background for your fish.

whats the price do do your 90 gl with that

The cost is 211 USD shipped. I am customizing it someone to include filtration built in. I will continue to use the fluval fx5 and eventually add a fluval 305.

My P's are very calm. I move things around in the tank and am around the tank all the time. I find them more curious than anything now. they were skittish before but have really chilled out now. I considered the black but decided to go with a natural look to a river biotope. hopefully it turns out the way i am imagining but I have no worries about them loving the new setup:popcorn:

would trickle filter get in the way of the background?

essentially that is what i am trying to do is create a form of trickle filter but modified... haha hard to explain but it will be all submerged so who knows what will happen! but no i dont think it would because you can choose how far out you want the background so you can make sure there is room for the overflow box or the predrilled spot...

Trickle filter sounds really cool are you planning on using bio-media? I slapped on a big emperor and really love the difference the double bio-wheels make. If so what kind of Bio-media are you thinking about using? Can't wait to see this complete.
