Fronts are hard to sex until they are a little larger, and the only way to be 100% certain of sex is by venting them. Your best bet is to find a deal on 7-8 of them. Keep the females and 2 males (the alpha will establish himself and when he does you'll know) Fronts are harem breeders and do not "pair" up, the alpha will get busy with all the females.

For substrate I prefer sand, black sand. The fronts love it, they love digging and sifting through it.

How much bio capacity does that sump have? It should do the trick, look for a pump that will turn your tank over 4-6 times per hour, so around 550gph, figure after head loss you're looking at around a 700gph pump.

Since you're going with a RR tank, I would ditch the idea of the HOB filter, if anything get a larger wet/dry, that way the tank can sit flush against the wall and you won't see the intake from the HOB.

Thanks for the help. I don't the size of the sump. Its pretty big. It takes nearly the whole room in the stand.

For the black sand, are you talking about reef sand that are in bags.

man, should really have a post in the African section to get more traffic now that you have decided on fronts. Fronts will end up need more than 4ft span. A 6ft tank is a for life now. If your fronts start small you will have a two year period until upgrading will need to be done. 2 inchers to start would be great. Sump looks to be smaller than a 29 gallon tank, it should be enough sump room, but the pump turnover rate is the important thing. You can have a 100 gallon sump but if the pump does not turn the water over enough it will not help.

Sand is must with these guys. They love to shift the sand and rocks, even small ones can irritate the gills.
