Many aquarist say that big discus bully small one,but I don't see that in my tank, they grow fine. Wat I do is the moment the small once start growing big I introduce new once in the tank and they get use to them.

I figured the babies wouldn't get enough food and wouldn't grow to their potential maximum size

Very beautiful.... Hahha how ironic... I am setting up a discus tank this week just the way u have it... Bare bottom and just the DW.... But I am going with juvies.... Btw what's the lighting u have used there? And whereabouts in India?
