Ok so ive posted in a bunch of other areas about this and that but i finally am going to do it

gonna start drawing it up tonight

goin to pick up tank monday

90 gallon with mag 9 for sump pump

all for 120

Goin to remove existing supportin shelf and instal a frame for the fish tank and sump.

Usin a mag 9 for the pump and usin a 10 gallon for the sump until i can get something more beneficial

Ill be framing it in installing tank and filling.

after i get it setup ill be boxing it in with oak trim i have for FREE and making the top area swing out on both sides to access the tank

all filtration and everything will be hidden minus the air hoses inside the tank and a heater

any ideas on how to hide the heater?

can i put it in the sump?

ill be posting vids pics and diagrams tomorrow after i clean my kitchen so you guys dont know how messy it is :P

oh ps...my chick is pissed so dont tell her

she wont know until she comes home from work next week and her shelves are gone lol

some more questions

with tank sizes does it factor in the 1/4 inch or so for the plastic frame?

i want to start drawing it up and want to make sure before i start measuring and remodeling as im hoping to do some of that tomorrow pre tank pick up

also lbs per square inch on a 90 gallon tank is like wht 1.23?

just curious

the weight of a full tank it says is 1080 roughly

im assuming thats pretty close.

let me know so i can figure this out thanks

1. I would recommend something a bit larger than a 10G for a sump.
2. The heater will be fine being placed in the sump.
3. I'm not sure what you are referring to with the 1/4" plastic frame.
4. 48*24=1152, 1080/1152=0.9375lbs per square inch.

Ok so i have a cracked bottom 30g

can i just slap a piece of lucite in and silicone it?

the 30 wont weight as much as it normally would cause it wont be 100 % full of water so the cracks shouldnt be a problem

ty for the heater advice

the plastic frame as in the plastic as the bottom and the top. Is that figured into your measurments?

picking up the tank this afternoon also have a sump pump and a tank i picked up for 10 bucks off a friend for the sump

my new concern is being under the countertop it wont be 100% above the sump so im worried it may not drain into the sump correctly

my other concern is my floor the tank will be running the same way as my floor joists and im not sure how much weight it will hold.

guess im going to have to start looking at supporting the floor

has anyone ever delt with this

i know its not a ton of weight but its always a concern i guess

let me know your thoughts on the floor and also if you have any ideas on the sump as the tank will only be about 6 inches off the floor and the sump will be sitting directly on the floor

I'm sorry, I'm being dense here...this 90 gallon will be under a counter at your shin level?

basically

counter top on top of tank figure what hieght a regular counter top is at then picture this under it boxed in so all you see is glass and oak

Update

Tank now purchased and sitting on my kitchen floor

turns out this tank is way more amazing then i originally though

will be buying some wood to build the skeleton for the build tomorrow

basically just goin to be a 4x4 cube under the tank to allow just enough space for the plumbing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqzORqCI96k

check out the video of the tank and the sweet mag 9 i got for a buck 20

new vids tomorrow i hope maybe starting the build out

posting a pic of a basic rundown of the setup

bad news is MINIMAL open area above tank and when i say minimal i mean very very little

37 inches from floor to counter 6 inches under for plumbing 23 for tank leaving me 8 inches to put stuff in means a pain in my but may be cutting into the counter to put a viewing window/access panel up top or depending on wether or not i can squeeze the plumbing in may cut the bottom frame to 4 inches rather then 6 giving me some extra space and eliminating the need to cut my counter top up

Should be fine for the sump to be a bit off center. The goal is to just have the water feed to the sump.

90 gallon isn't that big, you should be OK with that tank without reinforcing the floor.

The 30 gallon would make a better sump. I would pass on the acrylic and go to a glass shop and have a piece cut to fit the bottom of the tank. It would probably be cheaper that the acrylic as well. Silicone does not adhere that well to acrylic.
