First off, hello MFK!! First time poster here, I've been on the site for hours looking at all of you crazy peoples, LoL! Most of you guys are awesome and for those of you that are making your fish dreams come true, Congrats!

I am here for some advise when it comes to my tank. I have a 90 gallon tank that I am re-setting up,(I have the tank and stand, and everything else needs to be re-bought) I have done many tanks before and am in no way an expert, but i feel i can keep fish alive and let them thrive.

I am going to have live plants and more than enough filtration, good lighting and will be able to monitor the water levels pretty well, so what I'm looking for would go something like this;

  • Schooling, or just relatively active
  • not gonna kill my plants
  • could maybe eat live food or flakes/dead food
  • something a little price sensative
  • fun to watch/look at

As and example, I have been looking at Exodon Tetras, they meet most of my criteria, however they are $10-15 a peice in my part of the country, and i would like to have more than just a few. At $10-15 a pop that gets expensive fast. I have had Cichlids and yes they are the most beautiful of the fish i can get around here, they also get expensive (really!) fast. There might be a few other fish I have in mind but i would like to hear what you have to recomend.

Thank you!

P.s. If i posted in the wrong place, please move post.

Tiger and Rosy Barbs? How many for a 90, would they eat my plants, and would a few plecos be ok with them?

Tetras will be good for schooling but ones they get comfortable in your tank they will not swim together unless there scare..tetras , barbs will be ok with plant's just heads up make sure you get like 5/6 barbs bcz if you get 2 they might nip each other. Not a fan of flakes but I would get crips better....tetras/barbs are no kore thatb$3 e.a it also depends were your from ...barbs are more active than tetras

keep it small all kinds of things in the same tank, my 75g has barbs, cardinals, tetras, betas, gouramie, danios a black ghost knife and a plec, about 35 little fishies total.

I was hoping to do a species tank for the most part, like all barbs, or all tetras. I would like to get 20-30 of them and let them grow, just trying to decide what species to go with.

I ran a 90 for several years with 10 normal, 10 green and 10 albino tiger barbs, made a good shoal. Also had some other odds and ends in there but can't remember.
