The sev will likely shred up most of your plants & the jd will tear/dig them up too. Big cichlids & plants doesn't typically work out well. Stick w/ the rocks & driftwood & save yourself some $.

This all depends on the individual. I have 5 severums and only one doesn't like plants. I will agree that many large cichlids are not big fans of plants, especially if they come from areas where there are little to no plants.

+1 SA Cichlids and plants don't mix well

This is a very broad statement that is not very accurate. Rams and apistos are SA and they love planted tanks. Even medium sized cichlids from SA like my acaras like plants. I personally have found that many of the more mellow, "gentle giants" of SA often don't care, especially if the plants are fake. Oscars, chocolate cichlids, severums, etc. all qualify.

To the OP: The best thing to do is test it out. Worst case scenario is they chew up some of the plants. And java fern and anubias are not likely to be victims because of their waxy leaves. The swords are likely to be the victims if there are any. If they are sting the leaves, it is a food source thing. If they uproot them and let them float, its a personality thing and they either don't like the plant or don't want it where you put it. LOL
