90 gallon stocking question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In my 90 I have a JD an GT with a Firemouth. FM is a bit smaller and gets picked on, so if I could do it over again I'd replace him with a female Salvini. Their striking Yellow color really pops out and complements the others. Not to mention they have a real mean streak and will hold their own. I'd keep it to 4 or less medium sized cichlids or one big one like a FH or Midas etc.

If choosing a GT you'll want to find out about growth rates and factor that in IMO. The GT's grow slower than a JD for example and can end up being bullied pretty badly.

Have you figured out a plan for Filtration and a water change schedule? I'm getting excited. I love to hear about people setting up new tanks

I'm gona post new pics of mine tonight. Maybe they'll help a bit, so keep an eye out

Good luck!!

I have a Texas, a GT, and JD in my 90 the JD is bigger than all and he kinda runs the tank, the Texas is second in pecking order and doesn't really take much from the JD. I'd watch out for the GT too as they are slower growers and mine gets picked on by the other too, but not bad, they dont gang up on him he justs minds their space. my 2 cents.

Pay the extra 75 bucks and get a 110. I wish I had. That is the most gallons for that footprint.

I'm looking to upgrade but it's a lot more expensive after you've made the mistake of getting a tank smaller than the footprint will allow.

For a 48X18 footprint, the 90gal is ideal. It looks in proportion. The 110gal looks too tall, and try to reach the bottom with that 30" height!

Burt:)

Yea I'm 6'2 and its not hard for me to reach all the way to the bottom i have to roll the ol' sleeve up lol....im sure it would be much harder if you were shorter

why not a breeding pair of H. Carpintis? I have a pair myself and they're awesome.
Maybe some other species of Herichtys.
