I'm picking up a 90 gallon tank next week and really miss having oscars. It's been 15 years since I had them though, and at that time I didn't know much about fish and did the usual "bunch in a 55" thing. Now I know better!

However...I want to make sure I do it right this time. The tank has 2 aqua-tech filters, a 20/40 and a 30/60. I'm going to be getting a rena filstar xp3 canister to add to this as well.

Can I keep two oscars in this setup? I will be getting juveniles to grow up together. Any suggestions for bottom-type tankmates?

I personally wouldnt keep 2 oscars in a 90 because of the bioload alone, but people do.

For cats...pictus, synodontis & of course you could always add another poop machine to the tank and get a pleco.

I keep a pretty strict maintenance schedule on all my tanks.

I was thinking of a bristlenose. I love those ugly critters.

personally i am a big fan of my asain bumble bee catfish. generally redily available does a good job cleaning up scraps only problem is it will stay hidin from view whenever there is even a light on across the room. but this is supposed to be basically an oscar showcase tank right? 2 full grown oscars in a 90 no problem if you know your way around a nitrate test and are diligent enough to keep it below 20 ppm you will have 2 oscars that absolutely love there 90 gallon permanent home.

Yes, I have a 120 overstocked parrot cichlid tank that I keep maintained with no problem, so I think I should do fine.

I'm debating either doing 2 oscars or moving my Banded Leporinus from another tank and doing one oscar and the Lepo.

I really would like just two oscars though...mostly because there is no way I could pick between a tiger and an albino, heh.

Decisions, decisions. This is why I have so many dang tanks...it's like the commercial for some credit card that has that theme song "I want it all...I want it now..." :nilly:

i completely understand where your coming from this is why i have 3 salt tanks and 3 fresh tanks plus 2 300 gallon rubbermaid stock tanks full of fresh.
