90+ gallons on the floor

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great looking tank! Is that tank on a total of 12 cinder blocks on the four corners? None in the middle? How many cinder blocks would you recommend for a 6’ by 18” 125 and what orientation?
Yes, a pier of 3 blocks under each corner. My 5ftx2.5ft 120g is supported the same as the 260g. Older video but should show all the fine cabinetry I use.

Ok now I’m considering a 180 gallon to replace the 125 that I had. Would I be better off sticking with the 125 or is the 180 safe?

I'm no structural engineer though I do play one online in fish forums.
Will the tank be sitting perpendicular to or parallel with the beam supporting the floor joists? Centered over or just one end sitting over it? I would consider additional support if it is not sitting directly over that beam. Remember you are now talking about ~2000lbs sitting on the floor.

In the end it's up to you, but I advise using the 473 liter instead of the 682 liter. The overall space difference for the fish is minimal, but the difference in weight is about 44%, which could easily be the difference between a solid and sagging floor/reinforcements.
