So I got this bright idea a few months back to build something Zoo quality or better. But I wanted to include my cold blooded friends with the amazon crew I was already planning on build a new aquarium for. So I picked up a used 90g long tank and started the design. My game plan was to stand the tank on end and do a rock background with a floating island and ledge work for plant life and the chameleon and geckos to hang out on. With the bottom half of the tank being design as a 40g aquarium. So game plan was to drill the tank, carve the background out of foam, and glass off the bottom half of the tank and screen off the top half. If your lost on were I'm going with this hopefully the pictures help. Below are pics of the project. (NOTE IT IS STILL IN PROGRESS AND ANY INPUT IS DEFINITELY WELCOME2013-03-24_14-01-10_295.jpg2013-03-24_14-08-40_648.jpg2013-03-24_14-39-36_783.jpg2013-03-24_15-51-09_156.jpgIMG_20130421_114806_578.jpgIMG_20130421_114811_975.jpgIMG_20130426_133736_521.jpgIMG_20130426_133744_825.jpgIMG_20130426_135109_393.jpgIMG_20130426_143553_374.jpgIMG_20130512_201200_598.jpgIMG_20130512_201208_687.jpgIMG_20130522_195836_132.jpgIMG_20130530_175941_011.jpgIMG_20130530_175959_424.jpgIMG_20130530_205225_616.jpgIMG_20130606_184848_423.jpgIMG_20130606_184925_759.jpgIMG_20130606_184940_345.jpgIMG_20130606_184952_445.jpg

Now I need to clean up the edges with a razor and a sponge. Then off to the Glass store tomorrow to pick up the lower pane. The only thing holding this project back is the stand that I have yet to build. I kind of forgot about that minor detail.

will you be putting fish in the 40 g part? whats stopping fish or your reptiles from getting into the overflow through that cave? can you take out the styrofoam?

I would be careful keeping a chameleon in there. Chameleons generally need screen enclosures for good airflow otherwise it allows for the build up of disease. On top of that if the chameleon has a mishap and falls into the water its going to be done for not to mention dead crickets building up in the water. I own a bunch ofthe reptiles and dead crickets in water bowls is constantly an issue. Just thought I'd give a heads up on that. Your background work is amazing too!

Its got double layer of fiber glass screen that is silicone into place then sealed with concrete. To remove the styrofoam I have to run a blade around the silicone to cut it out. That is the only major draw back to this design. As far as the 40g portion yes I'm looking at doing Archers and Red Blood parrot.....but I'm taking suggestions.
