90G question?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well to lessen Bio load, what about having an Oscar and convict as the staple, and adding a Firemouth or Blood Parrot, and 3 Silver Dollars. The Parrot or Firemouth dont get to big, so that may help my Bio Load issue. I could Upgrade to a 120gallon if you think it is needed to fit that 3rd cichlid. I never liked Blood Parrots, but after researching them, they do look like a cool fish. What do you guys think? Thanks

Yeah a FM or Salvini could work although the Sal. might be a bit aggressive...

You still might have territory issues with any of those 3 cichlids, but you should be able to re-home a FM or Salvini alot easier than the Con or Oscar. What size were you looking to get your fishes at? juvies? or more mature?

I always got my fish as juvies and grew them out. I have a 180 that is like that now, but I also have a 3.5 inch Convict in a 30 gallon. So I was thinking on getting a pretty big Oscar if I can find one (6-8inches), add the silver dollars, let them acclimate. Then after a few weeks add the convict, and another juvie, (either a FM, Jack D, or Blood Parrot). Not sure yet. To me that makes sense. What do you think? Thanks By the way, I dont really believe in the whole hybrid thing, but a BP might work in this situation.

Sounds like you have a plan...

I say go for it just make sure you have a back-up just in case something goes foul. I usually add the less aggressive fish in first then slowly make my way up to the mose aggressive of the stocking. It depends on the fishes indivdual personalities again because my male GT isnt aggressive with Cories or Tetras (temporary growout), but my female Convict is a terror to my barbs. She has yet to hurt let alone catch them but it seems she just enjoys bothering them. Like a few minutes ago two of my larger tigers were fighting for dominance in the pecking order i guess and then out of nowhere she comes flying in just to make them scatter then swims off like nothing happened. Its your tank and it seems you've done some HW on the situation so stock it how you please but just know the heavier the bio-load, the more work and maintenance on your part.
