90g stocking question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You will be fine for now. I had two AC 70's on my 75 with a rather heavy bio load and it was fine. I had crisp water and healthy fish. I just recommended the AC 110 because for the money you can't find a better mechanical filter. I would put two sponges and a micron filter on top and just fill the two 70's with biomax. Your tank would be good with no matter what you put in it IMO. Btw don't look at the manufacturers recommended tank size for filters. You want to look at gallons per hour and use it on a case by case basis. Your 90 may only need 600 gph, but someone with 10 clown loaches and 5 oscars will need at least double that or a large wet dry to keep up with that bio load. Does that make sense?

I agree, you will be fine. Just do lots of water changes. It will be a really nice tank.

That definitely makes sense Buckeye. I have both my AC 70/300's running with sponge, carbon, then biomax on top now. I've been wanting to do away with the carbon, but it's kinda ingrained into me that carbon is needed for some reason. Maybe because my dad always had carbon in his tanks? I know it is not as many run tanks without it, but isn't carbon better to have than not to have? I've been looking for a clear answer on that on here and haven't found much to sway me. Still, it's encouraging to hear I shouldn't have a problem. Thank you for posting your setup too, so I can compare.

I likely won't be setting up the 90g for at least 6 weeks as I'm moving to Philly soon. And thinking it over now, I'm gonna need at least one AC 110 because I'll have the two AC 70's running on my 55g until I do the transfer from my NJ/55g to Philly/90g. I'm likely gonna do some scrambling with the 30g community tank and get that filter running with a AC110 on the 90g for some BB to get it cycling. I hate moving fish and tanks around.:irked:

Again, thanks to all who posted. I feel less stressed about losing fish now.:)
