Hello :)

My GF's 90G tank was found cracked and spewing water yesterday morning. The tank was purchased around...March of 07 and setup around the same time. The tank is a marineland/perfecto standard 90G. The tank also sits on an EXTREMELY well constructed stand that her dad made out of 4*4 posts a bunch of 2*4s and some thick plywood....the stand could litterally support a car. The fish in the tank were 2*7-8" oscars, 2*4-5" balas, 2*5-6" tinfoils and a couple of smaller random cichlids. When we pulled one of her oscars out of the tank it was beat up pretty bad, so it could have freaked out over something and rammed the tank glass. But IMO an oscar that size shouldnt be able to do sh*t to a tank that large....do you guys think manufacturers defect? The crack was from the bottom left corner to the top right corner across the entire front pane of glass....and another small 4-5" crack on the back glass near the top right.

What sucks is she is having to replace the flooring in her bedroom as well as buy a new tank as the room was carpeted and there just isnt really anyway to remove the near 60G of water that hit that without having some massive mold from it. :screwy:

Do you have pics? Before and after, and an up close of the crack would help, as far as a speculative guess as to what may have happened. A shopvac could have saved the floor.

Theyre gonna to take some pics tomorrow of it. I guess it could have but the only shop vac that was available was like a tiny little hand held thing. I have a large one but it wont really fit in a mustang :)

Hind sight is 20/20 and it is easy for me to sit here and say how easy it would have been to prevent or cleanup. I am sure you guys did all you could. The reason I asked for pics, is to see the way the decor is set up. The O' could have knocked a rock over and smacked it into the glass hard enough to cause failure. Hope the cleanup and replacement process is as easy as it can be for you.

No rocks in the tank either...there were 2 pieces of driftwood that was attached to slate bottoms and burried in the gravel. The only things near the glass walls were plants. The tank stand was perfectly level...nothing was near the tank to crash into the front of it. Nothing inside the tank could have crashed into the glass.

It was a mess, and carpet that has that much water in it...just really isnt worth trying to dry because it would take days. Days that just really arnt available in that situation, since there are fish in a cooler rigged up with a filter and one hell of an overstocked 30gallon ;) So theyre going to lowes in the morning and get some kind of peel and stick tile and re-paint the room and so on. Just give it a really good cleaning and go ahead and paint while all that crap is outa there. I think besides the tank being busted...the worst blow was a vintage turntable setup being flooded as well as a peavy bass.

Sounds bad. I would send pics with an explanation to the manufactor. You may be surprised.

any kids in the house that have turned abnormally good recently?

:ROFL: So that is how I got caught for everything in my childhood....:irked:

Did you have foam between the tank and stand? The stand may have one corner the is higher or lower than the other three.
