Ok, I've resealed tanks... it's not that hard. It is time consuming though. I can tell you that if they break down and reseal the whole tank, at $95/hr, you're better off looking at buying another tank. The silicone that you use is also important. There are only a few that are rated for both strength AND are FDA approved for being pure silicone. That GE window and door **** isn't gonna cut it.
If I were you , I would look into doing it myself. If you get a razor blade scraper and spend some time IN the tank being careful not to cut the silicone between the glass, it's a few hours. Then it's a bit of time setting up with the silicone, smoothing it (quickly), and letting it cure.
