Hi, this is my first thread around here, although i have been reading a lot since i first joined ...
Okay so here it is, i just bought a 95 gal tank and was wondering what could i stock in there. I've some fishes in my mind but haven't decided yet so here are my options:
Oscar, JD, GT, Texas Blue, Firemouth, convicts, maybe a senegal bichir ...
at first i was thinking of 1 Oscar, 1 JD, 1 GT, 1 sen bichir and maybe some dithers, but the texas is so cool !!
The only fish i've owned of those were the oscar, the others i've just been researching a lot !
So what do you guys think would be the best combination of those fishes ?!

Thanks in advance

Far to many in a 95G...If you swapped the Oscar for something else smaller it would be ok tho

I would recommend keeping 1 pair, because the more you keep, more frequent water changes that you have to do. I would eliminate the choice of Oscar. And good luck finding a good looking texas, I would recommend green texas over true texas as they are more blue and bigger pearls. And you may add few giant danios as dither fish.

i have 3 O's they are awesome...

they do produce lots of waste though
not the waste, oscar is too big for a 75g with other cichlids. It will work but the tank will be too crowd.

Look into salvini they are really good looking. And they have great personalities. With a salvini, A breeding pair of firemouths with a dempsey and a few convicts would look really good. Hey wait a sec I have that set up. It is really pretty and makes for a lot of entertainment. RESEARCH SALVINI.

Thanks for the replies everyone, it has more than i expected, i thought that everyone would be really bored on having to reply for stocking suggestions "again" lol

You meant 95 gal didn't you? I thought maybe would be crowd with an O/or a Tex, JD and GT, but i saw some people saying it could work.... anyways thanks for the advice.

I've researched a little on salvini and thought they look good too, but i've been told they are pretty nasty and would pick up on the other ones in the tank. Besides that i like it too, the only problem is that i don't think i've ever seen one of those in lfs around here.
But i liked your set up it sounds like entertaining !!

About the texas, he growths like an O so he's out of question too ?!
Ohh man when i think i got a bigger tank to house them ... lol
Well maybe when i finish grad school i'll have a bigger one !!

so all of the fish that you listed could potentially work. but not all together because your aquarium would be REALLY overstocked. one thing that will pretty much dictate how many and what kind of fish that you can keep. i would suggest either building your own filter or a canister filter.

back to the actual fish though, there are a few potential problems.
1. if any of the cichlids breed that means trouble for anything else in the tank. i had a pair of 1.5 inch convicts that almost killed a 5in midas, 4 in green terror, and 2 3.5 in jack dempseys. Cichlids can be overprotective.
2. A Texas cichlid will actually behave as a community fish for the first part of its life. almost any cichlid of any size might bully it. but once it hits puberty there's a little change. What i'm trying to say is that for the first part of it's life it might be picked on and beat up, but when he gets bigger he might decide that the whole tank is his territory and no other fish is allowed to be alive in it.

i would really recomend the oscar and senegal bichir for personality. these are my 2 favorite fish. oscars are highly intelegent and can be taught tricks, and my senegal is just silly. also GT's and JD's have the potential to get very pretty (but also could be bully's)

In my 100 gallon i have a Texas,JD,GT,Argentea and Convicts.....hoping to keep them all long term to...IMO it should be fine...I had 3 fully grown Sevs in here before with a Fully grown Brasiliensis and a large plec and there was tons of room.

Okay, now i think i decided my stock:
It will be JD, GT, a pair of convicts, a pair of jewel cichlids (or a pair of firemouth), some melanotaenia as dither fish and a pleco or other bottom fish that helps in the cleaning.
I was thinking to give it a try and if something goes wrong long term, i'll re-home the fishes
What do you guys think?! Any suggestions for the bottom cleaning fish?
