95 gallon stocking ideas for a ca/sa community tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My LFS owner actually overstocks all of his SA tanks with convicts. He'll have his normal stock and 10-15 cons depending on the size of the tank. That way if a fish decides it wants to get aggressive and kill another fish it's usually a convict. Helps to spread out the aggression, and all his stock is top notch quality.

Cant go wrong with the Geophagus species! Iv had nothing but good luck with the ones that i have and they show amazing personality! I keep 2 Geophagus Altifron with a pair of super red severum and a trio of angelfish. i also have a couple small catfish and 7 different pleco species in a 125 gallon tank. Its good to go with more easy going fish because stress levels are way low and the death rate is WAY lower then keeping aggressive fish.

Can't go wrong with a severum (just one in a 95G), angelfish, bolivian rams, keyholes, festivum. The key thing is to match fish with similar aggression levels. For example, I wouldn't add any acaras to that list as they just tend to be the next level up of aggression. Sevs can be aggressive, but when one sev is the king of the tank, he will generally be very gentle to his smaller tankmates.
I have a tank similar to the above and another fish I have added which fits in beautifully, and is very characterful is a Ctenopoma kingsleyae.

IMO a 95G is too small for geos for life. Ideally one needs a small shoal of them, and most have the potential to reach 10" or so. If you are wanting to add other fish too, then I just don't think you have the room.

A jack dempsey, some jewl cichlids, some blood parrots, firemouths, rainbow cichlids, and maybe a few more cool cichlids that don't grow above 8 inches of your choice.

Jewel cichlids are from Africa. And parrots are hybrids, not found in nature. Just do your research on the fish that are suggested. Make sure your tank is suitable for them at maximum size.

I know that, jewls have the bodytype of most american cichlids. The ones at the LFS are adeptede to low PH and they do fine in my low PH in my aquariums. and Whats wrong with blood parrots?

Nothing against either of them. He just posted this in the SA/CA cichlid discussion. Jewels just don't fish the description, and like I said previously, Parrots are hybrids, usually when someone asks for a species in this area of the forum they like a pure blood line. But of course I may be wrong, everyones opinion is different.

Guys, what do you think of this combination... wanting to get these fish.

1 Senegal Bichir
5 - 6 Red Head Tapajos
5- 6 Silver Dollars
1 Striped Raphael Cat

I am still undecided how much to get for the two species I want that is Jurupari and Geo Steindacheri. ANy suggestions?
