950 Plywood/Acrylic Build on Wheels!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
maybe instead of steel frame all around.. maybe just some angle steel mounted to the inside of that Dado. I understand the 3/4 ply attachment, but I think in reality that may be compromising the joint more as you are driving screws into the grain.. thus providinga good place for the grain to split.
it just that I have seen arrangements like this fail before, not in an aquarium, but you have the entire stress of the front panel on a 1" by 2.5" piece of wood. two pieces of angle steel would cost next to nothing.
ahhh. I think I understand, so.you have screws oriented parallel to the glass.... essentially securing the edge of the Dado to the rest of the post.. or am I getting it wrong?.

Yes I understand what you are getting at. and yes the screws are parallel to the glass so hopefully they would help support the wood in case of anything.

How long till you finish man I'm interested in the finished product sorry lol

Installed the aluminum strip flush with the edges of the 4x4 for the window to sit against. Used 5" lag bolts to keep it from moving when the water pressure pushes on it. It is totally straight and flush with the wood. 20151229_155306.jpg 20151229_155326.jpg 20151229_155345.jpg 20151229_155410.jpg 20151229_155429.jpg

Installing the liner was a pain and still not completely finished. The folds looked terrible so we decided to cut the liner in spots to make it flush with the wood. To attach two peices of liner together where the seams are from our cut, we used the tape activator, double-sided tape then silicone over the seam, then single sided tape over that and finally lap seal around the edges of the single sided tape so that it doesn't peel off. Hopefully there will be no leaks...
