950g Pump....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
was $49 a decent price? (I can always return it)

Should I buy another at that price or can I find something better for cheaper? I have the 750 in my 150g pond and that is spotless, even with a 3ft rise and about 12ft of hosing to find its way through...

the filter sucks but I'm not worried about that... I might even take it off to increase performance if you guys say the pumps okay. BTW, havent figured out the exact gallon size of my tank. It will be 2ftHx8ftLx6ftD.... 2x8x6. I think thats around 580 off of the top of my head.

i would want at least 4 times turnover thru the filter

4x580=2320 real gallons per hour ( include height and plumbing losses)

These 2 12,000 gph pumps have any head ratings? Are they 12,000, or 1,200.
2x8x6 is a lot of surface area to disperse the currents, plus you could throttle it back somewhat with a ball valve on the output.
Take into consideration the head losses, plumbing restrictions (same as increasing the head pressure), and what not, you might find you are really pretty close after all.

They are 12,000. As in Twelve Thousand (each) They were hot tub jet pumps...

Not to sound like an ass but I feel like I'm getting the typical 'overkill on everywhere possible' lecture. 4 times an hour? I KNOW my 55g tanks' pump doesnt do NEAR that. Its probably only 55gph at the most.... But it gets the job done. I think with the aerator(massive) and the design of my filtration it should be okay. But I am not sure. Thats why I'm here. Would it be OKAY? not "what I would do if I could do anything." I work at Pepboys so I cant really afford to buy some $200 monster of a pump.

I left out more details though. There will be a rock background and a VERY large peice of driftwood in the tanks so the actual gallon count is probably going to be under 300.... LOTS of objects in the water.

try it, you can add more later if you dont like the results.

it depends alot on the stocking level and how much you feed etc.....

go for it... as you can always add more filtration ....the big pumps are way too big and will kill your electric bill even if you had something to do with all the water flow.....

hope this helps..the more info you give the better the answers will fit your needs :)

As far as turnover being overkill, I have 2460gph rated on my 125 right now = 19.6x per hour turnover.
I'm sure there are others with more, but just for comparison.
