Major oversupply here in Malaysia with many cutting losses and closing down their farms.
At the peak of its demand a few years back, potential investors were asked to fork out RM100k (RM3.70 = UD$1) to "invest" in a small breeding pond consisting of around 25 full grown adults. This fee included the caring and breeding of the arowana however without any guarantee if the fish dies or if the breeding was not successful. Many of the investors have extra cash with minimal knowledge on fishkeeping let alone arowana breeding. The funny thing was for RM100k, the investors could have gotten a bigger piece of land as compared to the 20' x 20' breeding pond and the land appreciation value is far more secure.
