Check out this link. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/saltwater/news/story?id=4975762It will shed a little more light on the subject. Obama is not as great as everyone thought. He is the typical politician who wants to get through his agenda, not what the majority wants.

On the 2nd page of this thread. There is no ban on recreational fishing, just fear mongering and rumor spreading.

Now commercial fishing, totally different...dragging a net behind a boat catching everything in its path is irresponsible and leads to the problems the oceans are facing. Jobs blah blah blah...you could claim a paid assassin is a job that supports a family too.

Don't get me wrong. I love fishing but it's freaking cruel to the fish, tricking them and ripping their mouth open.

Since you're a fishkeeper you should know this first hand. Don't disappoint me.

I heard if you don't like fishing your banished from our country no matter who you are!

And? We're people, we do cruel things, it's not going to change. Keeping fish could be considered cruel as well. I'm going to guess you're not against that since you're on this site.

a ban on recreational fishing would affect the fish populations wouldnt' it?

but i don't see how this can be true. you have to have some kind of way to harvest them in a controlled manner or else one species can outgrow a lake or eliminate another species.

just like there's hunting season for certain animals. if you didn't harvest them, the population would get too big since there are not enough natural predators and then that would cause other problems

if anything, they should just have catch and release. but still, this has to be a rumor only

i agree with commercial fishing.i could live without eating fish from the store.its decimating the ocean ecosytem

I am all for it. How would you like me to put a hook piercing through your lower mouth and lifting you up into the air just with the hook? It's animal cruelty.

If you use jobs and economy as lame excuses then we should start poaching other animals legally to promote your inability to get a real job which does not involve in killing animals.

hook and release is a form of torture, since you don't intend to kill or eat the fish. You do it to feed your ego to see who has caught the biggest crap in the pond, at the expense of making the fish suffer. Totally pointless.

i have a question for you and people who feel the way you feel,............

do you own exotic pets? birds? fish? whatever,........... if so, how is taking an animal from it's natural home, housing it in a cage or fish tank and try to disguise it to match it's natural enviornment (as if a few leaves, driftwood, rocks, etc is going to fool the animal), feed it artificial food, in some cases, make it do stupid tricks,........... how is that not animal cruelty???

and if you dont' own any exotic pets, are you against it?

I'll take your opinion, if you feel that way about owning certain pets too, but if you're ok with owning certain animals, but is against fishing then you there's a double standard there

I think the best way to deal with that would be to put an end to destructive practices that disrupt the food chain. Drag netting, bottom trawling come to mind for destructive commercial fishing practices. But the oceans are connected, it would be hard to make any progress without worldwide cooperation which isn't going to happen as this is not an big issue compared to others.

Its annoying that there is such a need for population control. I live in suburbia and its mind blowing how many mcmansions are put in any available open space. There was no need for managed hunts and forestry before humans were around...interesting that there is now.
