Thats cool, you have a toilet right in front of the fish tank. No need for a newspaper :)
Good job though.

thats my ghetto basement setup. My basement is unfinished and my parents built me a room in half of it, and installed a toilet next to the washtub in the basement.

Ok first, I have to do it. Toiletrs work on the idea of the high level of water pushing itself down the hole. Kinda like a durso standpipe if you will. Hence, why when you flush, you dump a gallon or two of water into the bowl to create the push. Toilets will keep up. I would say you could probably run whatever size PVC you want. But just my opinion.

Now, That is a pretty ingenious setup there. Taking full advantage of the situation and environment.

Just wanted a way to drain the bigger tanks without hose and bucket. I'd imagine I can do this with about all of my tanks with enough elbows and pvc.

I have a similar setup of PVC on the tank-end I use. But, the terminal end connects to 30ft of pool vacuum hose so I can run the water out to nourish our vegetable garden.

Doesn't slow down the siphon at all? I haven't messed with it yet. I though I'd have to have a decent amount of slope to get this thing going. I guess I could always attach a powerhead to the end though.

I can drain my tanks real quick, when I built my overflow I added at T and a ball valve to the inlet close to the sump. Just switch the flow from going into the sump to flowing out side, with two quick turns.
