A. Burtoni pics

HAHAHA! i picked up three more burtoni females two days ago! One of these females is already holding! LOL

I just wanted to point out that your fish looks awfully like Astatotilapia calliptera.

yeah, i was thinking that the calliptera look an awful lot like the Burtoni

Just looked in the burtoni tank, and I now have 3 of 5 females holding.

I'm 100% sure that your fish is a calliptera and not burtoni. They display similar traits, but your fish is just lacking the looks of a calliptera. From what I see, the burtoni displays some red on its shoulder. I can't honestly point out all of the differences, but here are some pictures.

Burtoni on top and calliptera on bottom.

The fish to the right has more black and has a blue caudal fin and a different egg spot pattern.. slight differences but really they do look alike..

hmmm..... I guess it is possible, my buddy picked them up from a pretty reputable dealer, though. not to say he couldn't be wrong.
