A cause for silver dropeye

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
this was the cause in his case, but i never really seen anyone else's happen in this fashion.. just goes to show, there are many different ways its caused by, this now being one of them.

DE can kinda be reversed, maybe not completly but can be cured to look better. ponds help a lot like rottbo said. some people stick them in tubs for a few months. or paper over all sides of the glass for a few months.

i was still able to edit it, sorry

The diet of my fish has been frozen krill, scallops and shrimp. I guess he was 9 inches when I bought him and the LFS said he was wild collected, then raised in a pond. Who knows the history of the fish but the DE happened overnight when he lost the head scale. Maybe silvers have weaker eye musculature than other Aros and a small rap to the head will stretch and tear these eye muscles.

so can you get rid of dropeye then? reverse i mean?

I had a friend that put a rescue silver in to his pond that recovered totally from the drop eye it had previously. It had significant DE in both eyes and, from what I can tell, they are perfect now.

Mine is developing dropeye and the start of it was a spook and a headbash on a piece of marble, so I've never had an Aro with dropeye before. That incident was directly related to his development of dropeye. Like something was damaged during the headbash.

Thanks Meiling for supporting my observation. I'm sorry that your fish has it also. If I had known, I would have put bubble wrap on the inside of the tank lid. Why are these monsters so delicate? My Africans have slammed into the tank and lid with no ill effects.

Head bashing cause for drop eye? Sounds good as most other theorys I've heard. Also could be reason why ponds, in some instances improves the condition, not many places to bash head in a pond, aro less likely to be spooked in a pond. If they are spooked, alot more room to move without running into anything.

interesting thread....

i also own a 9" silver....
so what preventive measures would u guys suggest to me....

n i also read somewhere that, DE is also caused by excess of fat....is that true????
